Who should apply?
HDFS majors/minors completing their 3rd semester (or later) that are interested in careers working with young children and families.
What is needed before students apply?
- Declared HDFS Major/HDFS Minor
- GPA 2.7 through the 3rd semester
Suggested before getting started: Successful completion of HDFS 1070 and experience with young children in one or more settings.
How should students apply?
Application Procedures:
- Complete the Early Childhood Specializations Application Form
- Attach an Academic Advisement Report from StudentAdmin (in PDF format)
- Attach a letter of reference using the Letter of Reference Form
- This should be from an individual who recognizes your motivation to work in a field involving young children. It is helpful if this person has known you in an employment or volunteer setting in which you were directly involved with children
- Attach a recent photo of yourself
Application Timeline(s):
Applications are processed on a rolling admissions basis. However, we encourage you to submit your application by the dates shared below. This will allow time to meet with an ECS faculty advisor before enrolling in courses for the following semester.
- Preferred Fall Application submissions by October 15th (to begin Spring semester)
- Preferred Spring Application submission by March 15th (to begin in Fall semester)
Once the application has been submitted online, students will be contact via email by the ECS Student Coordinator/Faculty Advisor to arrange a meeting to talk about the ECS program and begin the advising process.
