HDFS Undergraduate Scholarships

The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences offers annual scholarships that consider merit and financial need. These opportunities are open to all eligible students enrolled in the HDFS program.

The HDFS Scholarship application for the 2024-25 academic year is now closed. The application for the 2025-2026 academic year will be available February 15th

Scholarships, description and eligibility criteria

Raymond and Jeanne Bartman Scholarship in Family Sciences

Awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in, or demonstrate intent to declare a major in, Family Sciences who requires financial support. The student should declare, or demonstrate intent to declare, a concentration in any one of the following five areas of family study: childhood and adolescence, early childhood development and education, adult development and aging, services and counseling, or policy and planning.

Elna E. Daniels Scholarship

Awarded to a fifth or sixth semester student who has successfully completed one or more courses in human nutrition. Scholastic standing and financial need are also considered.

Joan Sineti Fenton and Richard J. Fenton Scholarship Fund in Human Development and Family Sciences

Awarded to university students enrolled in the University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Candidates must meet the following criteria: a. Be a senior student enrolled full-time in the College b. Demonstrate academic achievement c. Be majoring in Human Development and Family Sciences d. Demonstrate an interest in pursuing graduate school studies. From those candidates that meet the criteria cited, priority consideration will be given first, to students who demonstrate significant participation in community service activities; and second, to students who demonstrate financial need.

Meg Galante-DeAngelis Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Human Development and Family Sciences, who requires financial support and is paying their own way through college.

Nellie A. Gard Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a student in Human Development and Family Sciences, with a minimum GPA of 2.3. Selections “will not be on the basis of grades alone, but upon general standing and work of the individual”.

Audrey L. Jarrelle Fund

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in Human Development and Family Sciences who requires financial support and has also demonstrated academic achievement.

Clyde A. Jones Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in Human Development and Family Sciences with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. Student must demonstrate high academic achievement and professional promise with creative potential.

Ardele Valcourt Loughlin Scholarship

Awarded annually to a student in Human Development and Family Studies who not only has the highest academic average by the end of sophomore year, but also shows an interest in foods and nutrition.

E. Charlotte Rogers Scholarship Fund

Awarded annually to a deserving junior or senior in Human Development and Family Sciences, this scholarship is partially based on high academic standing.

Dr. Howard A. Rosencranz Memorial Scholarship Fund

Awarded to an academically outstanding student enrolled full-time in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, and pursuing undergraduate or graduate coursework in adult development and aging.

The Frederic C. Teich Award

Award to a junior or senior demonstrating talent in an artistic field. Priority consideration will go to undergraduate students in Human Development and Family Sciences, but awards may be made to a student or students in any school of the university demonstrating outstanding talent in creative design. The criteria to be considered by the scholarship committee in selection of award recipients include past academic achievement, and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments. Although financial need may be considered as a criterion, it should not be considered the determinant factor in selecting students.

Dorothy E. Vail Home Economics Fund

Awarded to students who are in good academic standing and are majoring in Human Development and Family Sciences.

Lucy Allen Wyman Scholarship

Awarded to a student in Human Development and Family Sciences that has completed at least four semesters. Preference will be given to students who are graduates of Woodstock Academy or its successor. The criteria to be considered by the scholarship committee in selection of scholarship recipients include past academic achievement, and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments. Although financial need may be considered as a criterion, it should not be considered the determinant factor in selecting recipients.
